OUR MISSION

The primary mission of the Government and Nonprofit Assistance Center (GNAC) is to provide quality professional education, technical assistance, research assistance and current information to governmental and nonprofit organizations. The GNAC serves as a forum for the exchange of ideas among faculty and managers and seeks to identify and promote "best practices" in accountability and management for organizations in the public and nonprofit sectors. The GNAC promotes best practices by engaging in continuing professional education; engaging in consulting projects; conducting conferences, forums and events; and producing research products on current and emerging issues. It also serves as a resource base for governmental and nonprofit organizations.

MAKING POWERFUL CONNECTIONS

The University is committed to public service and seeks to share resources, skills and facilities. The GNAC has developed alliances, partnerships and other arrangements with selected professional organizations and associations, such as the Treasurers Association of Virginia, Virginia Government Finance Officers' Association and several key area nonprofit associations. The purpose of these relationships is to identify educational and training needs and to provide programs and delivery systems to meet those needs. This approach allows the GNAC to complement the programs of existing professional organizations.

" I am very excited about where we're going with this center. The Virginia Government Finance Officers Association is looking forward to maintaining and enhancing our relationship with Radford University. The Government and Nonprofit Assistance Center will enhance the training in accounting and management for members of our profession. This center is mutually beneficial to both finance officers and the university."

John Tuohy, Director of Finance, Fauquier County

MEETING YOUR NEEDS

The GNAC will offer a variety of workshops and seminars throughout the year covering topics on effective management and improved accountability that are of interest to local government agencies and nonprofit organizations. It will provide a forum for examining and disseminating information on contemporary and emerging management and accounting issues. The GNAC will draw on faculty expertise within the College of Business and Economics as well as the rest of the University.

"The Assistance Center fills a critical need and supports the idea of providing management in nonprofit organizations the opportunity to improve their skills as leaders and managers."

Chip Woodson, Director of Finance, Christian Children's Fund

Who Benefits? EVERYONE

The academic world benefits from association with professionals engaged in the day-to-day, hands-on side of financial management and accountability. Professionals benefit from faculty research and other resources provided by the center. Students will also gain numerous opportunities to participate in experiential learning activities and network with potential employers.
